In January of 2020, the San Francisco Business Times compiled a list of the largest Greater Bay Area digital health companies, as ranked by Bay Area employees. Information was obtained from company representatives, and in case of ties, companywide employees was used as secondary ranking criteria. On that list was McKesson Ventures portfolio company Augmedix.
Augmedix turns natural clinician-patient conversation into medical documentation, in real time, so that clinicians can focus on what matters most—patient care. Its platform is powered by a combination of proprietary NLP technology and specially trained teams to ensure quality and consistent documentation.
The service saves doctors an average of 15 hours a week, enabling them to see more patients and spend more time with their existing patients. As a result, provider satisfaction is increased, the patient experience is improved, patient notes are higher in quality, and notes are completed in a timely manner.
In October of 2019, Augmedix received $19 million in Series B funding that included investments from McKesson Ventures, Redmile Group, DCM Ventures, Wanxiang Healthcare Investments, and others. The company plans to use the funding to accelerate product development, including automation capabilities, and to strategically scale its technology-enabled service across health systems and private clinics nationwide. Fifteen national health systems representing more than 10 percent of the clinicians in the United States have partnered with Augmedix.
Also last October, McKesson Corporation announced an expansion of its collaboration with Augmedix. Using the service further enhances the experience of using EHRs including iKnowMed, McKesson’s oncology practice EHR system that was named the top-ranked EHR platform for oncologists and hematologists for the eighth year in a row by Black Book Research.
