OncoHealth has partnered up with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to offer cancer support to patients. Through OncoHealth’s virtual platform, Iris, patients who receive a cancer diagnosis will gain access to a variety of resources:
- Educational resources
- Clinical Oncology expertise
- Mental health support
- A network of peer mentors
The program will enable patients to have 24/7 access to oncology nurses, set up mental health appointments with therapists specializing in offering support to those with cancer, nutrition support, and more.
James Grant, MD, SVP and Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan noted that cancer is likely to impact every person at some point in their lives, either through a personal diagnosis or a diagnosis of a loved one. By partnering with OncoHealth, the Blue Cross Cancer Program enables a “whole-person” treatment approach.
It’s not only patients who have access to these resources, either. Caregivers will also benefit from the plethora of resources available. There are also resources tailored specifically for those who are newly diagnosed, as well as survivors.
Andres Norden, MD, Chief Medical Officer at OncoHealth noted that Iris users often have fewer emergency visits and hospital stays, improved quality of life, and better coping skills.
The program is set to roll out for all Michigan Blue Cross PPO and HMO health plans on January 1, 2024.
